On 22 April 2026, the Bo Phut police station in Koh Samui published a humorous post showing the inside of its holding cells. Inviting internet users to rate their « satisfaction » on a scale of one to three stars, the police contrast with self-deprecation the austerity of the premises against the luxury villas of the paradise island.
Published by the official page สถานีตำรวจภูธรบ่อผุด RTP Cyber Village, the post lists the rating criteria: three stars for « very good », two for « good » and one for « to try before ». Under the hashtag #ตรวจสอบห้องควบคุม (cell inspection), /Lt. Kasem Rakchu and Sgt.Thapakorn Chuchan present the very spartan interior of the police station's detention rooms.
The photos show bare walls, metal doors and minimalist fittings, far removed from the comfort standards of Koh Samui's resorts. The offbeat tone of the post immediately triggered a wave of amused and ironic comments on Facebook.
Internet users played along with humour. One asks if it's possible to book for several people with friends, another demands air conditioning and modern toilets, while a third jokes: "If I argue with my wife, can I come and sleep here?". The police themselves reply with humour, fuelling the buzz even more.
By publishing these images, the Bo Phut police are seeking to humanise their image and show, with self-deprecation, the real conditions of temporary detention on the tourist island.
