On 14 and 15 September 2026, at Bang Kao pier, hoteliers and boat operators on Koh Samui are invited to try a fully electric boat.

The company Thai Maritec, Thai distributor of the Chinese brand ExploMar, is organising a sea demonstration of a 100% electric boat on 14 and 15 September 2026 at the Bang Kao pier, on Koh Samui. Under the name « ExploMar Thailand », the event is aimed at hoteliers, tourism professionals and shuttle operators already based on the island.

Participants will be able to take the helm and obtain concrete data on the propulsion system, range, battery charging time, operating costs and maintenance. The stated aim is to explore the use of these vessels for guest transfers and coastal excursions, in a quieter and less polluting setting.

According to the organisers, electric propulsion reduces noise and vibration, emits no pollutants in use and forms part of a tourism offering that is more respectful of the marine environment. The Samui trial extends a rollout already under way in Thailand: Thai Maritec was appointed official dealer for ExploMar in 2025 and a test centre opened in Bangkok in spring 2026.

Previous trials have included a twelve-metre fibreglass speedboat fitted with two WAVE 150+ electric outboards and batteries with a total capacity of 180 kWh. The managing director of Thai Maritec, Patarapol Koopitakachorn, highlighted the interest of this technology for the country’s maritime transport and nautical tourism sectors.

In Thailand, the variety of water-based activities requires a balance between performance, range, energy supply, cost and environmental impact. ExploMar’s high-performance electric outboards offer a genuinely sustainable option for the maritime transport and tourism sectors.
