A minibus that had just disembarked from a ferry struck tourists at Thong Sala Port on Koh Phangan on 6 March 2025, injuring several people. A licensed transport operator denounces the lack of regulation and calls on the authorities to ban access to illegal vehicles for greater safety.
A worrying accident occurred on 6 March 2025 in the early afternoon at Thong Sala Port, the main maritime terminal of the tourist island of Koh Phangan (Surat Thani province). According to a witness and operator of yellow-licensed vans (legal public transport), a minibus hit tourists shortly after disembarking from the ferry.
Several tourists were injured in the collision. The author of the testimony, presenting himself as « a professional who respects the regulations and pays his taxes », denounces the anarchy prevailing in the port area.
« I call on the authorities to better manage and organise the vehicles entering and leaving the port for more order and discipline. Illegal vehicles should no longer be allowed to go up to the quay to tout for customers. »
He insists that Koh Phangan is a world-class tourist destination. A serious accident, especially one involving foreign visitors, could permanently damage the image of Thai tourism.
« On behalf of legitimate transport operators, I ask the page to relay this information to the authorities so that they prevent unauthorised vehicles from accessing the upper area of the port to solicit customers. This would ensure the safety of residents and tourists using the services of Koh Phangan Port, while restoring order and discipline. »
