The Governor of Surat Thani has announced the arrival of the first boat carrying 200,000 litres of fuel to Koh Samui, to end the shortage that has particularly affected diesel on the tourist island over the past few days.
On 3 March, Jumphat Wannachatsiri, Governor of Surat Thani province, reassured the population with an update on the fuel crisis affecting Koh Samui.
At 2 pm, the first transport ship arrived at the island's port with 200,000 litres of fuel destined for the 19 local petrol stations. Unloading operations are underway to enable rapid distribution to motorists and tourism professionals.
A second boat is expected at 5 pm today. Two more supply ships will arrive tomorrow, 4 March. In total, more than 400,000 litres of fuel will be delivered to Koh Samui over two days, a volume deemed sufficient for the needs of residents and the tourism sector.
The governor also issued a stern warning to petrol station operators: any abusive stockpiling or unjustified refusal to sell will be rigorously sanctioned by the authorities.
« I ask the residents of Koh Samui not to panic. Fuel supplies are arriving continuously and the situation should return to normal tomorrow. » declared the governor.
