A German tourist, Nicholas, has posted a video showing a tense exchange with a traffic policeman, accused of losing his cool and becoming aggressive. The island's police have responded by launching an internal investigation.
The incident took place on 5 February 2026 at around 10:15 in front of the Nathon police post. The policeman stopped a Honda Genio scooter driven by Nicholas, a German tourist, because his passenger was not wearing a helmet.
During the check, the officers discovered that Nicholas had no driving licence. A fine was issued and paid on the spot. However, a communication breakdown escalated, as shown in the video posted on Instagram by the account @echterniclas.
The Koh Samui police commander, Col. Panya Niratimanon, reacted immediately, summoning the officer concerned for questioning. He has been temporarily assigned to the station's command centre (sidelined) and has ordered the creation of an investigation commission. The authorities also plan to interview the German tourist to establish the facts precisely.

“I find his behaviour as a policeman totally unacceptable. Becoming so aggressive and even resorting to blows has absolutely no place in this profession. If someone already loses control in such a situation, one wonders how they would behave in even more challenging ones.” … “Koh Samui police are not sitting idle in the face of this incident. They have ordered the officer concerned to join the operations centre and have formed an investigation commission. We will also contact the foreign tourist to gather the real facts,” he wrote on the official Koh Samui Police account.
