On 9 May, Thai authorities launched a large-scale operation in Ao Sritanu, inspecting four resorts suspected of illegally operating hotel rooms without legal authorisation.

On 9 May, units from the Department of Local Administration, led by police officer Singkhom Khamyot from the Investigation and Legal Affairs Division, in collaboration with the deputy district chief Paisit Thongjem of Koh Phangan (Surat Thani), joined forces with the local police commanded by Colonel Aphichat Chansamret, head of the Koh Phangan station, and the province's immigration services.

This operation targeted establishments in the Ban Ao Sritanu area, Tambon Koh Phangan, a zone popular with many expatriates. Four resorts were thoroughly inspected following intelligence on potentially illegal activities.

The first target, Zama Resort, managed by Honos Management Co., Ltd. with Thai and foreign shareholders, has 23 rooms. The managers were first accused of operating a hotel without a licence.

Second target: Sritanu Residences Resort, operated by Mudita Koh Phangan Co., Ltd., also owned by Thais and foreigners. The establishment had been closed shortly before the arrival of the authorities.

Third site, Haad Chao Phao Resort, managed by Phangan Haad Chao Phao Resort Co., Ltd. with 8 rooms. Some managers were detained for violating the 2004 Hotel Act, while checks on foreign workers were carried out. Fourth and last, Samma Karuna Beach & Wellness Resort, managed by Samma Karuna Co., Ltd. with 12 rooms. Documents and involved persons were verified, with a preliminary accusation of illegal operation.

Of the four establishments, three were cited for violations of the Hotel Act (B.E. 2547), leading to legal proceedings. Investigations continue into accounts, shareholders, and financial flows to bolster the cases.

The Ban Ao Sritanu area, home to a large expatriate community, is undergoing thorough examinations of business activities and properties to ensure compliance with current regulations.
