A shocking video shared by Trash Heroes shows a farang dumping rubbish on a road in Koh Samui, filmed by a helpless Thai. The community is demanding justice.
A shocking scene is circulating on social media: a man of apparently European appearance, nicknamed « farang » in Thailand, shamelessly tosses rubbish from the back of his pick-up onto an inland road of the paradise island of Koh Samui. The act, captured by a powerless Thai who films the scene, has sparked a wave of indignation. The undated video was shared by the Facebook page of « Trash Heroes », a group of volunteers dedicated to the regular cleaning of beaches and wild areas of Koh Samui.
Comments are flooding in, mixing anger and calls to action. Many netizens are demanding the vehicle be reported using its visible number plate, and calling for the immediate deportation of the offender. « Report and deport », blasts an outraged user.
« If you’re in a foreign country, adapt to good manners, not bad ones », retorts Günny Singha to a sarcastic comment defending the act by imitating the « Thai habits »… « Look at this. Thais come to my place. I may not have your status, but I have a conscience: I would never do that », testifies Mongkol Samui, moved by the disrespect.
A real manhunt is now underway on social media to identify this polluter. The local authorities could be alerted, at a time when preserving Koh Samui, a tourist jewel, is an absolute priority.
