On the island of Koh Samui, a young Briton was arrested after being filmed driving recklessly and dangerously, causing concern among locals and tourists.
The footage, widely shared on social media, shows a black utility vehicle weaving along the road that circles the island, in the Bo Phut area. The driver makes risky overtakes, cuts in sharply and tailgates other cars, to the point of alarming other road users.
Alerted by reports from internet users, the Bo Phut traffic police quickly located and intercepted the vehicle in front of a local hotel. At the wheel was a British national, Jack, aged 21.

The young man told investigators that the car was a rental he had been using for two days. He was taken into custody and the vehicle was seized before being returned to its owner. He is being prosecuted for “driving without regard for the safety or peace of mind of others”.
The Bo Phut authorities remind tourists, both Thai and foreign, of the obligation to strictly observe the highway code and encourage anyone who witnesses dangerous behaviour to report it immediately.
