Following the murder of a taxi driver in Chaweng on 24 May 2026, Bo Phut police deny any laxity and confirm they are working day and night on the investigation. A first suspect has already been arrested and several arrest warrants have been issued. The authorities have also launched a large-scale operation to crack down on illegal taxis.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the Bo Phut police station sought to clarify the actions taken in the case that shocked Koh Samui. The police force assure they have “neither remained inactive nor allowed the case to lose momentum”.

After the murder that occurred in front of the “Chaweng Regent Beach Resort” on 24 May 2026 at 1:25 a.m., investigators immediately launched intensive searches, day and night. The suspects fled in a car, which was found abandoned in the Khao Pom area and seized as evidence.
The Bophut police also coordinated with the Koh Samui police station to monitor the ports, in case the fugitives attempted to leave the island. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed several witnesses to build a solid case file.

To date, several arrest warrants have been issued and a first suspect involved in the case has already been apprehended. Active searches continue to apprehend the other wanted individuals.
Furthermore, on 26 May 2026, a major joint operation was carried out under the direction of Amorn Chumchuai, in the presence of senior officers from Bo Phut police, transport services, tourist police, municipal officers and local administration.
The authorities carried out enhanced checks against illegal public transport vehicles and reminded taxi drivers of the obligation to follow the rules: wearing a uniform, using the meter, stopping only at authorised locations and a ban on parking in public places.
