On site in Koh Samui, Minister Surasak Phancheerawarakul launched a large-scale operation to secure tourist sites in order to guarantee a safe and welcoming experience for visitors.
On 16 June 2026, Surasak Phancheerawarakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, presided over a ceremony launching security measures at the « Fisherman’s Village », in the district of Koh Samui, Surat Thani province. The stated objective is to strengthen tourist confidence while consolidating Thailand’s image as a leading global destination.
The minister emphasised that the government intends to promote tourism while placing visitor safety at the top of its priorities.
« The integration of efforts from all parties concerned will improve tourist protection and strengthen the country’s image », he declared.
Following the ceremony, Surasak Phancheerawarakul visited Fisherman’s Village to meet residents and tourists, before heading to Chaweng beach. There he inspected maritime surveillance systems and accident blackspots along the coastal road, where incidents involving foreign visitors have been reported.
« The Ministry of Tourism and Sports attaches paramount importance to tourist safety, especially in beach areas. We must have an effective protection system, with trained lifeguards and enhanced surveillance of high-risk zones. »
The minister also asked local authorities to identify and rectify dangerous road sections in order to reduce accident risks and reassure travellers, whether Thai or foreign.
