A Koh Samui resident has filed an official complaint against the noise nuisance caused by cockerels, which have been depriving them of sleep for more than seven months.

The local Facebook page Samui Ko Chird shared, on 23 June, a copy of a complaint addressed to the municipality of Koh Samui, in Surat Thani province. The document, lodged on 22 May 2026, comes from a foreigner living near Walking Street in Maenam.

The complainant describes a daily racket between 3 pm and 6:30 pm caused by three fighting cocks kept in a house in alley 4. The crowing, repeated every three to four minutes, has been going on for more than seven months and is causing insomnia and restlessness.

« I have already reported the problem to the authorities without receiving a response. I am requesting prompt intervention », the document states.

The post has sparked lively online debate. Some users believe foreigners must adapt to local traditions, while others consider this constant noise pollution intolerable, regardless of the residents’ nationality.

The municipality of Koh Samui has not yet announced a date for an on-site inspection.
