The Thai government is offering financial rewards of up to 250,000 baht per case to citizens who report drug trafficking and enable successful seizures, in order to encourage public participation in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
Thailand continues to face significant narcotics trafficking, particularly of amphetamines and methamphetamines, which fuels organised crime and especially affects border areas and rural communities. The authorities regularly carry out large-scale seizure operations, but narcotics trafficking remains a major challenge for public safety and health.
The Thai Parliament’s information office has published details of the informant remuneration scheme, based on announcements by the Ministry of Justice in 2020 and 2022. The reward amount is calculated according to the type of drug and the quantity of pure substance seized.
The applicable rates are as follows:
Heroin : 25 baht per gram
Amphetamine or derivatives (powder, ice) : 25 baht per gram
Ketamine : 10 baht per gram
Morphine : 5 baht per gram
Cocaine : 5 baht per gram
Pseudoephedrine or ephedrine : 0.75 baht per gram
Amphetamine or derivatives (tablets, yaba) : 0.50 baht per tablet
The maximum cap remains set at 250,000 baht per case. This system aims to strengthen cooperation between citizens and the authorities in monitoring and suppressing narcotics trafficking within communities.
