The Deputy Interior Minister has ordered the Provincial Water Authority to speed up the resolution of water supply issues on Samui Island while preparing a long-term security plan.
The Deputy Interior Minister, M. Jesada, has issued urgent instructions to the Provincial Water Authority (PWA) to quickly relieve areas affected by water cuts on Samui Island. He also requested the development of a plan to ensure the security of long-term water supply.
At the same time, M. Jesada demanded that the PWA submit a daily report on the evolving situation and prepare emergency measures in case the crisis persists. He stressed the need to communicate regularly with the public so they can adjust their consumption and limit disruptions to daily life and economic activities.
« I received the first reports yesterday and immediately ordered the PWA to act. Water cannot wait. We must mobilise all available means: increase production, transport water from Surat Thani, strengthen supply via the submarine pipelines, repair faulty installations and optimise resource management. We have also requested the artificial rain department to intervene as soon as weather conditions allow », declared M. Jesada.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that Samui, a major international tourist destination, needs a reliable and sustainable water supply system. He therefore tasked the PWA with developing a comprehensive long-term security plan, including strengthening raw water sources, improving production and distribution infrastructure, and modernising equipment.
« This is not only about resolving the current crisis, but about laying the foundations for sustainable water management so that the island has a clean, high-quality and sufficient resource for residents, tourists and businesses, whatever the circumstances », he added.
