A miracle on Koh Tao: on Wednesday night, a naval patrol was mobilised to transfer a critically ill 38-week pregnant woman from Koh Tao hospital to Koh Samui.
Thai authorities dispatched a naval vessel on Wednesday night to transfer a pregnant woman in a medical emergency. The 32-year-old patient, of Burmese nationality, was suffering from severe pre-eclampsia and had high blood pressure accompanied by abdominal pain.
Lieutenant Commander Natthaphon Sinphunphon, deputy of the Internal Security Operations Command in Surat Thani, responded to a request from the Naresuan Gulf emergency medical centre, based on Koh Samui. Due to strong winds and heavy swell, a military vessel was required to ensure the safety of the transfer.
After approval by Vice Admiral Thepparit Lapphlue, commander of the Second Naval Region, the vessel Tor 268 was deployed with personnel from the Surat Thani branch. The patient, War War Cho, was taken to Koh Samui hospital, where she was cared for by the medical teams.
