Badbuzz: Karma Beach Samui published photos of an alleged group that left without paying, but absurd texts on the parasols and visual inconsistencies suggest AI image generation, risking a reputational boomerang.
On the Facebook group « Koh Samui », the French owner of « Karma Beach Samui » posted a message accusing a certain « Mr Luigi » and his friends of leaving the establishment without settling their bill of around 3,800 baht (about €100). The appeal, written in a polite but firm tone, invited the young men to return to settle their debt before any further action.
« Mr Luigi, We would like to reach out to the group of young guests who spent the day with us today at Karma Beach Samui. We sincerely hope that your departure without settling your bill was simply an oversight or a misunderstanding. Before we are obliged to take any further action, we kindly ask you to return to Karma Resort to settle your outstanding bill at your earliest convenience. Very quickly, the post divided internet users and prompted dozens of replies: some criticised the behaviour of the alleged clients, while others denounced the prices as prohibitive.
But the debate truly shifted when attentive observers examined the photographs attached to the post:
The high-quality images, supposedly taken from a CCTV camera, show glaring anomalies. The texts on the parasols are distorted, inconsistent from one photo to the next and bear the tell-tale signs of AI image generators, with letters merged and illegible inscriptions.
Even more troubling, a tattoo clearly visible on the arm of the man in blue shorts disappears completely in another shot from the same sequence and even a men with six toes. These continuity inconsistencies, combined with details that are sometimes too smooth or odd, such as a hand in an impossible position, make it certain that AI generation or heavy editing was used.
In the comments beneath the post, the owner tried to defend the establishment against criticism of the method of the public shaming. Yet no one can confirm whether the act of leaving without paying actually took place or whether it was a staged stunt to create buzz… The lack of tangible evidence beyond these dubious visuals strengthens the suspicion of a publicity operation by a tourism operator seeking a little attention amid the fierce competition on the island.
