A tourist couple is being sought after a viral video in a 7-Eleven and surveillance camera footage for thefts in Phuket and Rawai.

Two shoplifting incidents involving a Spanish tourist couple are currently stirring up social media in Thailand. The first, which occurred yesterday and went viral on 12 October 2026, shows the duo filmed hiding items in a 7-Eleven. The second, which took place in Rawai, supported by surveillance camera photos, involves the theft of a pair of trousers worth 1,595 baht.

In the widely shared video, a local Thai woman filmed the scene. She discreetly alerted the shop staff after seeing the couple hide products. The two individuals initially denied it firmly before the items were found in their pockets. Based on their appearance, accent, and behavior, several Spanish-speaking internet users strongly believe they may be a couple of Argentine tourists.

A few hours later, a second warning circulated. According to information shared via Instagram, the same duo is said to have stolen a pair of trousers from a shop in Rawai. The woman is said to have kept watch while the man hid the item. The surveillance images show the two suspects high-fiving after the act. A successful challenge, but at what cost… The authorities are currently searching for them.

“These two tourists steal until it becomes second nature. Someone provided information via Instagram: they stole a pair of trousers worth 1,595 baht. The woman kept watch while the man stole. They are currently wanted.”, the post said.

These incidents have reignited the debate over the behaviour of certain tourists benefiting from the visa exemption. Many Thai internet users are calling for stricter checks and the systematic application of fines or legal proceedings. The 7-Eleven staff have been criticised for not immediately calling the police and settling for payment at the normal price.

At this stage, no official arrest has been confirmed by the Phuket authorities. The videos and photos continue to circulate widely, however, serving as a warning to traders on the island.
