A Western-looking individual, shirtless, smashed the window of a shop opposite Thong Sala night market around 3am, before stealing a scooter in front of a bar. The man is not on his first offence.
According to a witness appeal posted in a local Facebook group, a Western-looking man appeared shirtless and smashed the window of a shop located right opposite the night market in Thong Sala, causing significant material damage, between 2:47am and 3:00am.
Shortly afterwards, the same individual is also said to have stolen a scooter parked in front of the small bar “Destiny Cocktail Bar”, nearby:
Comments under the post reveal that this individual is not on his first offence. Several residents and tourists say they have already seen him shirtless on Thong Sala beach, as well as at Coral Bay. One witness recounts:
“He was sitting shirtless on Tong Sala beach yesterday, my boyfriend told him to get dressed straight away before he flipped out; shortly afterwards he took his trousers off again, there’s definitely something wrong with him!!!”
Another resident of the Ban Tai area claims he regularly loitered in front of his mother-in-law’s shop, staring at it for long periods, before attempting a break-in the previous night while removing his top. Locals are expressing growing concern over this type of behaviour, noting that the island is attracting more and more “problematic” tourists.
On Koh Phangan, drug use remains very high among foreign tourists, largely fuelled by the festive and permissive atmosphere of the “Full Moon Party”. This kind of visibly intoxicated character, who commits repeated offences and dangerous acts, has become a recurring sight on the island.
Local authorities have not yet made an official statement on the incident, but calls for vigilance are multiplying on social media.
